The Night Before Classes Begin...

Carolyn on Face Time.
My wife and I are almost empty nesters with Carolyn now attending Virginia Tech.  Thank goodness we can use technology to communicate on a regular basis.  Home is not totally quiet, we still have Ben around.

This week I attended pre school opening classes.  I was overjoyed in meeting all the new people I get to work with.  Our new librarian is Mrs. Campbell version 2, but a very intelligent Duck Dynasty fan.  The Ag. teacher from Page High and I are great friends.  I bought his sailboat and hope to find time and money to make a few improvements before sailing on Lake Arrowhead.  I wonder if any of my students have sailing experience?  I can use help.

This first week will have a 1pm dismissal on Friday before our 3 day holiday.  4th block will be all used up for an assembly at 12:30pm to dedicate the wind turbine to the late beloved Mr. David Ponn.  All students are invited and classes will start being dismissed after roll is taken in 4th block.

Speaking of Wind turbine, I have meet with and enjoyed the enthusiasm of several students in my Green Club.  Our name keeps changing and we are now at GScape  which stands for Great Stewards caring about the planet Earth!  Our goal is to enlist the entire population of LHS into recycling plastic bottles.  One of the club's goal is to buy a water bottle refill station.  It would be a retrofit over an existing fountain.  The best way to reduce plastic waste is not lettign it ever get into the waste steam.

Now serious items:  I have a full schedule with:
1st block PLAN
2nd block  Technical Drawing and Engineering Drawing in the same time and room.
Both classes will need a small binder for notes.
I provide the drafting equipment, software and computer
Engineering Drawing students will immediately make new evacuation plans for selected rooms.
I also have new software called Solid Works.  Using this along with Inventor will make for
           interesting times.
Be on time and respectful.  Most instruction will be via data projector.  It is your responsibility
to take notes, complete drawing assignments in time allotted.  Regular attendance is
critical,  It is very hard to make up this work outside of class.
3rd block - Technology Transfer -  The system has ended the teaching of Technology Foundations.
Students will no longer be able to take that intro course at the middle school.  To make sure all
are up to speed with safety and tools in the lab we will start from scratch.
I expect a 'hands-on' course with 90% of the time on task with projects.  All materials for these
projects will be provided by the school.
You should have a small binder or folder with pockets for notes, handouts.
You will be assigned a locker under the work bench and you may bring your own lock.
4th block - Physics -  Yes you read that correct.  Mr. Vickers is teaching the academic course in
Physics.  I will be using an online curriculum created by Plato Learning Environment.  The first
class of lucky students will learn via computer , then class discussion, lectures, and lab
experiences.  I already have several other teachers willing to assist and provide what they used
in labs for us.  Students need a binder and writing tools.

2nd Semester I have two Technology Transfer classes and one dual enrolled Robotics class with JMU.
