Important People Wall

I just meet the new assistant Parks and Rec director for the Town of Luray.  I mentioned my important people wall and she said she wanted to see it.  I suggested she look at my web site and then realized I probably did not have a photo of the wall easily found, so here it is:

This pic shows me and the new librarian at Luray High, Carrie Campbell.  I think it is appropriate to post the pic this today since we had a nationwide sustained silent reading this morning.  Everyone was to read for 30 minutes and enjoy the benefits of knowledge gained!

Empty spool of PLA filament for the 3D printer

Wow,  that spool of natural filament went fast.  This may be since I have ran the 3D printer from 7am to 5pm every day since we got it.  So what color should I buy.  We have Physics students looking today for items to print that will help us understand physics concepts. Dolla!

Mousetrap Vehicles

The Transfer class of first year lab course has completed the boat hull design and are designing the mousetrap vehicle  design project.  Students are to choose between designing for distance or speed.  A special recognition is given to MTVs utilizing recycled materials.  Look for student photos later today to get more ideas.

Valley Technology Education Teachers hosted by LHS

Hey, We had a blast!  Good eats, good ideas, good fellowship.  I know I learned form my colleagues and shared what I did with those select folks that made the journey to Luray High.  Next month we are having our meeting at Thomas Harrison Middle School to see their STEM academy.  Mr Stansberry and Mr. Corder are going to wow us with their setup.  In November Mr. Magnone will have Billy Batkins from Highland Springs High teach us a full day workshop on flight.  the host is East Rockingham High and it is a November the 9th a Saturday.

Scott Schlosser had our complete attention with his wood turning techniques and using super glue as a finish!

Good things are happening in the Valley!

Thank you in Ehlers, our Athletic director, for the shout out!

From a vine I made in class with the new 3D printer.

The 3D printer came today.  Within 20 minutes Taylor and I had it running.  So far we have printed
the sample files including a comb, shark pendant, nut and bolt.  I can't wait to get my drafting students drawing solids to print out on this new high tech piece of equipment.  The only filament we have came with the machine and it is natural.  I hope to find the $39 to buy a red or purple spool.

Since Taylor was so good to help me during her Physics work (she was ahead of the others in class), we are naming the printer "Taylor."  To get all of the power, network, etc cords in place on the tables we rearranged the scanner and printer to allow the 3D printer cable to reach the hard drive.

Come get your picture with Si from Duck Dynasty!

Hey kids, the art department has completed the painting of Si.  He is propped up by the library door.

I found an English teacher after the book club meeting that was gracious enough to pose with Si for my camera.

Does this guy have any one liners you enjoy?  Let Mr. Vickers know asap

It is a beautiful fall morning temperature wise, management wise, student interest wise.  What more could we want?
